About Us
Racine Atelier was born from a quiet reverence for nature and a deep desire to preserve the beauty of traditional craftsmanship. What began as a simple admiration for the raw elegance of natural materials soon blossomed into a purposeful journey—to create timeless pieces that carry the stories of hands, roots, and earth. Inspired by the untamed beauty of water hyacinth, we sought to transform this overlooked plant into objects of meaning—woven baskets, mats, bags, and lighting that speak to slow living, sustainability, and soulful design. Racine, meaning “root” in French, is our way of staying grounded while reaching the world, one handcrafted piece at a time.

Our Story
It started with a question: Can beauty heal the planet?
Racine Atelier was not born in a boardroom or a design studio—it was born in silence, in observation, in the slow unraveling of everyday life. Founder Subodh Ingle found himself drawn not to grand inventions, but to the humble rhythm of craft, to the texture of natural materials, and to the forgotten wisdom of artisans.
One day, while walking along a lakeside, he noticed an abundance of water hyacinth—an invasive plant often discarded as waste. But in its tangled roots and wild form, he saw potential. What if this so-called nuisance could become the thread that connects nature, craft, and conscious living?
That seed of an idea led to Racine Atelier—racine meaning "root" in French. It became a promise: to create with purpose, to honor the Earth, and to support the hands that shape each product.
Every basket, bag, mat, or light you see in our collection carries more than function. It carries a soul. It carries the touch of an artisan. It carries a story of transformation—from overlooked to treasured, from ordinary to meaningful.
At Racine Atelier, we don’t chase trends. We trace roots. And we invite you to live a little slower, a little softer, and a little more intentionally—with pieces that are as enduring as the earth itself.
